Getting to Cap Cana

10 to 20 minutes from Punta Cana Airport: the resort area closest to PUJ

Cap Cana

Cap Cana is about 10 km from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), 10 to 20 minutes by car depending on which part of the development you are heading to. It is a gated community with controlled access, golf courses, a marina and beaches such as Juanillo, south of the airport.

It is the shortest transfer in the east. The real question here is not the airport, which is almost always PUJ, but how to get around inside and out of the development, because internal distances are long and you do not walk from one part to another.

Nearby airports

AirportsDistanceDrive time
PUJ · Punta Cana Airport 10 km 10 to 20 min By far the closest. Some Cap Cana hotels run their own transfer service.
LRM · La Romana Airport 75 km 1 h to 1 h 20 min Only if your flight lands there, via the Autovía del Coral.
SDQ · Las Américas Airport 185 km 2 h 30 min to 3 h About 2.5 to 3 hours with tolls. Only worth it with a much cheaper flight.

Which airport to fly into

Fly into Punta Cana (PUJ). Cap Cana sits just south of the airport and the transfer is one of the shortest in the country: about 10 minutes to the main gate and up to 20 to the hotels by Juanillo Beach or the marina. Many of the development's luxury hotels arrange transfers themselves; ask when you book, because it is sometimes included.

Santo Domingo (SDQ) is 2.5 to 3 hours by toll highway, so the flight savings must be large to make up for it. La Romana (LRM) is roughly an hour away and gets few international flights. If you are playing golf at both Casa de Campo and Cap Cana on one trip, flying into one airport and out of the other can make sense.

Transfer routes to Cap Cana

Areas and transfer times

Hotels and villas by Juanillo Beach, on the east side, are about 15 to 20 minutes from PUJ. The marina and Punta Espada (golf) area is also 15 to 20 minutes away, on another branch of the internal road. Villas and condos near the main gate, by the airport road, are about 10 minutes away.

Just north of Cap Cana, between the airport and the sea, is the Puntacana Resort development, another gated area; the transfer is just as short. From anywhere in Cap Cana, Bávaro is 20 to 30 minutes away.

Getting around

There is no public transport inside Cap Cana, and the marina, Juanillo and the golf courses are several kilometers apart. Hotels offer golf carts or internal shuttles, and many visitors rent a cart to get around the development.

To get out, Uber is possible but patchy: guides from January 2026 say UberX is rarely available inside Cap Cana unless a driver has just dropped someone off nearby, and the reliable option is Uber Select (taxis in the app), priced close to a taxi. A ride from Cap Cana to the Los Corales bar area in Bávaro showed around US$33 on Uber Select in early 2026. Taxis at the development's stands and those your hotel calls charge fixed fares; confirm them first.

There are no guaguas inside the gates; the nearest run along the road toward Verón and Bávaro. Walking works inside the marina or your hotel, not from one sector to another.

Tips

  • Give the driver your name and hotel: the Cap Cana gate asks for guest details.
  • If you rent a villa, ask whether a golf cart is included; it saves a lot of taxi fares.
  • For dinner in Bávaro, ask the hotel taxi for a fixed round-trip price.
  • Do not count on UberX inside the development; use Uber Select or the hotel taxi.
