Bávaro to La Romana is about 90 km and 1 to 1.5 hours on the Autovía del Coral. A private transfer for 1 to 3 people was around US$70 to US$120 in 2026, and the bus between the two cities' Sitrabapu terminals a few hundred pesos.
It's a short, easy trip, mostly on modern road with two toll booths. It suits people moving between Bávaro resorts and Casa de Campo or Bayahíbe, golfers, cruise passengers boarding in La Romana and guests who fly into Punta Cana because it has far more flights than La Romana (LRM).
For most people the choice is simple: a private transfer drops you at the hotel or the port, and the bus only pays off if you travel light and stay near the terminal.

By private car or driving yourself
From Bávaro you take the boulevard towards Verón and then the Autovía del Coral, which runs south of Higüey and enters La Romana from the east. On the way are the Coral 2 and Coral 1 tolls; budget around RD$200 each way for a light car (about US$3), in cash. The last few kilometres go through La Romana city, with more traffic and motorbikes.
A private transfer was around US$70 to US$120 in 2026 for 1 to 3 people, depending on where in Bávaro you start and whether you're going to La Romana city, Casa de Campo or the cruise terminal; a group van around US$90 to US$150. From Cap Cana the trip is a little shorter; from Uvero Alto, about 30 minutes longer.
By bus
Route planners list an Expreso Bávaro service between the Sitrabapu terminal in Bávaro (Cruce de Verón) and the one in La Romana, taking about 70 minutes with roughly hourly departures, at the equivalent of US$4 to US$7. Another source says only about six departures a day, until 4 pm. We found no official published timetable; ask at the Verón terminal.
From La Romana's terminal you need a taxi to Casa de Campo, the cruise port or Bayahíbe (about 25 km further east). With big suitcases, taxis at both ends cut into what you save compared with a private transfer.
