Getting to Juan Dolio

25 to 35 minutes from Las Américas Airport: a strip of resorts and condos east of the capital

Juan Dolio

Juan Dolio is about 33 km from Las Américas International Airport (SDQ), 25 to 35 minutes on the Autopista Las Américas, which has a toll. It is a long strip of coast with all-inclusive resorts, apartment towers and beach restaurants, from Guayacanes in the west to the end of the hotel zone in the east.

SDQ is the logical arrival. La Romana (LRM) can work if your flight lands there, and Punta Cana (PUJ) is about 2 hours away.

Getting around

Juan Dolio runs along a single street parallel to the beach, lined with resorts, condos and restaurants. Each stretch is walkable, but end to end it is several kilometers. Uber coverage reaches Juan Dolio from Santo Domingo, though with fewer cars than in the capital; for the airport, book ahead or use a local taxi.

Guaguas run along the highway toward Santo Domingo and San Pedro de Macorís, and motoconchos cover short trips within Juan Dolio. For a day in the capital, Uber or a driver hired for the day is the easiest: about 50 to 60 minutes to the Zona Colonial.

Tips

  • If you rent an apartment, confirm driver access and the building's gate with the owner.
  • Leave for SDQ 3 hours before international flights: the drive is short, but accidents can block the highway.
  • Carry pesos for tolls if you drive yourself.
  • For dinner in another part of Juan Dolio at night, take a taxi rather than walking along the road.
