Group Transfers in the Dominican Republic (2026): Vans, Minibuses and Coaches

A group of 8 to 12 people with luggage fits in one van, which costs around US$60 to US$120 one way from Punta Cana airport (PUJ) to Bávaro in 2026. For 20 to 25 people you need a minibus, around US$150 to US$250 on the same route, and bigger groups need a coach or several vehicles. Everything is priced per vehicle, so the cost per person falls fast as the vehicle fills.

The short version: Count suitcases, not just seats. A 15-seat van comfortably carries about 10 people with luggage. For weddings, golf and bachelor trips, book by blocks of flights, put a group name on the pickup sign and get the quote in writing with tolls and waiting time spelled out. From 6 people up, private almost always beats shared.

Which Vehicle Your Group Needs

The rule that prevents most problems: the seat count a company advertises is not the number of people who fit with luggage. In a 15-seat van the back row usually ends up holding bags.

VehicleSeatsComfortable with luggageTypical use
SUV or minivan6 to 74 to 5Families, couples with lots of bags
Hiace-style van10 to 158 to 10Friend groups, bachelor trips, big families
Sprinter or high-roof van12 to 1610 to 12Golf groups (long bags), small weddings
Coaster-style minibus25 to 3020 to 25Weddings, conferences, corporate groups
Coach40 to 5535 to 50Large weddings, events, excursions

Golf bags, surfboards and strollers push you up a size: one golf bag takes roughly the space of one passenger. Many companies solve this with a luggage trailer or a separate cargo vehicle, charged on top.

Approximate Prices by Route (2026)

These ranges are one way, per vehicle, daytime. We built them from published rates on booking platforms and group quotes; they are not official fares and every company sets its own.

RouteVan (8 to 12 people)Minibus (20 to 25 people)
PUJ to BávaroUS$60 to US$120US$150 to US$250
PUJ to Cap CanaUS$60 to US$110US$140 to US$230
PUJ to Uvero AltoUS$90 to US$150US$180 to US$300

SDQ to the Colonial ZoneUS$60 to US$100US$140 to US$220
SDQ to Punta CanaUS$220 to US$350US$400 to US$650

Premium vans (leather-seat Sprinters with water and wifi) are quoted much higher; we have seen wedding quotes of several hundred dollars for a single run. If the goal is moving people and bags, a standard van does the same job.

What usually adds to the price:

  • Night hours: many companies add a surcharge for arrivals between midnight and 6am.
  • Waiting time: the first hour after landing is usually included; after that it is billed by the hour.
  • Extra stops: a supermarket or liquor store stop on the way to the hotel is common on bachelor trips and almost always costs extra.
  • Tolls: long routes such as Santo Domingo to Punta Cana pass toll booths on the Autovía del Este and the Coral Highway. Ask whether they are included.

To compare routes, see Punta Cana airport to Bávaro, Punta Cana airport to Cap Cana and Santo Domingo to Punta Cana.

Destination Weddings

Weddings are the hardest case because they combine arrivals over several days, older guests and an event day on a fixed schedule.

For arrivals, collect every guest’s flight in one sheet (flight number, time, headcount) and group them into two to three hour blocks. Each block is one vehicle. A guest landing at 11am should not wait for the 4pm flight.

For the wedding day, if the ceremony is away from the hotel (a chapel at Altos de Chavón, a villa in Cap Cana or a beach in another zone), book vehicles by the hour instead of by trip, so the driver waits through the ceremony and reception. Leave slack on the last run back, because parties run long.

For guests with limited mobility, flag it early: not every van has a low step or a ramp. See the wheelchair-accessible transfers guide.

Golf Trips

Punta Cana, Cap Cana and La Romana hold the country’s best-known courses, and golf groups often move between them several days in a row.

  • Give the number of bags. It is the detail that most changes the vehicle. Eight golfers with bags do not fit in a 15-seat van without extra cargo space.
  • Book daily course runs separately from the airport transfer. A driver who takes the group to the course at 7am and collects it at 1pm is usually priced as a return trip or a half day.
  • Plan real drive times. Bávaro to Cap Cana is about 20 to 30 minutes; Bávaro to Casa de Campo in La Romana is around 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes.

Bachelor and Bachelorette Trips

The challenge here is pace rather than logistics: late nights, several stops and plans that change.

  • A private van by the hour for a night out usually works better than several taxis, because nobody gets left behind and the cost splits evenly.
  • Agree the price and stops before you leave. “Hotel, dinner in El Cortecito, a club and back at 2am” is a clear quote.
  • Uber works in Bávaro and Santo Domingo for short hops, but a group of ten needs three cars arriving at different times. More in hotel-to-hotel transfers.
  • Tipping: a driver who spends the night with the group usually gets more than on a standard transfer. See tipping drivers.

Organizing the Airport Pickup

  1. Send the flight list to the company with names, headcount and bags per flight.
  2. Ask for a group name on the sign, such as “Smith and Lee Wedding”. It is easier to spot than a single surname.
  3. Confirm where the driver waits. At Punta Cana airport, drivers and reps wait outside the arrivals area; the Punta Cana airport guide walks through it.
  4. Get the dispatcher’s WhatsApp, not just the office line.
  5. Pick one group lead who holds the confirmation and can make calls if someone is stuck at immigration.

If flights land late or get delayed, read late-night and delayed arrivals as well.

Private or Shared for a Group

A shared shuttle from PUJ to Bávaro is around US$15 to US$25 per person in 2026. For six people that is already US$90 to US$150, more than a private van, with stops at other hotels. That is why, from about 6 people up, private is usually cheaper and always faster. The full comparison is in private vs shared transfers.

What to Get in Writing

Before you pay, make sure the quote states:

  • Vehicle type and seat count
  • Price per vehicle, and whether tolls, waiting time and night surcharge are included
  • Flight delay policy (most track flights, but confirm)
  • Cancellation policy and any deposit
  • Air conditioning and seat belts in every row
  • Child seats, if there are small children in the group

Once you have dates, headcount and flights, you can request a group quote.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a group van from Punta Cana airport to Bávaro?

In 2026 a private van for about 8 to 12 people with luggage is quoted at around US$60 to US$120 one way to Bávaro, depending on vehicle size and time of day. A 20 to 25 seat minibus is usually around US$150 to US$250. These are per vehicle, not per person, and vary by company and season.

How many people actually fit in a van?

A Toyota Hiace style van has 10 to 15 seats, but with full-size suitcases about 8 to 10 people ride comfortably. A Sprinter usually takes about 12. For more than 15 people with luggage, book a minibus of around 25 seats or two vans.

Is a shared shuttle cheaper for a group?

From about 6 people up, a private vehicle usually costs the same or less than shared seats, and you skip the stops at other hotels. Shared only makes sense when group members arrive on different flights hours apart.

What if our group arrives on different flights?

Book one transfer per flight, or per block of flights landing close together. Holding a vehicle for two or three hours is billed as waiting time, and the people who landed first end up sitting in the airport.

How far ahead should we book wedding transfers?

For weddings and large groups in high season (December to April), book at least 4 to 8 weeks ahead, especially if you need minibuses or 30 plus seat coaches, which are in shorter supply.
