From Las Américas to La Romana is about 100 km on the eastern highway, 70 to 100 minutes depending on traffic and whether you are going into town or to Casa de Campo. The official taxi costs around US$90 to US$100 in 2026 and a private transfer US$85 to US$130 per car.

Tolls

Possibly one, depending on the route: the La Romana plaza at the city entrance or bypass. Eastern plazas charged RD$100 for cars after the January 2025 adjustment (about US$1.60). Private transfers normally include it.

The drive

The route runs east on the Autopista Las Américas and the eastern highway: Boca Chica, Juan Dolio, the bridge over the Higuamo River at San Pedro de Macorís, then about 35 km of straight road through cane fields to La Romana. It is two lanes each way for most of the way.

The approach into town has more traffic lights and motorbike traffic, especially near the center and the port. Casa de Campo is east of the city with its own gated entrance; the driver gives your name and booking number at the gatehouse. If you are heading to the cruise terminal, it sits in town at the river mouth; give the driver the exact terminal.

On Friday afternoons and holidays, eastbound traffic builds at San Pedro and at the entrance to La Romana. On a weekday at midday it is an easy drive.

Which option suits you

Casa de Campo offers transfers to its guests; compare its price with an independent private transfer, which is often a little cheaper. For cruise passengers, a private transfer at a fixed time is the safest bet: if your flight is late, the driver waits, and you go straight to the pier.

The fixed-fare official taxi is a good option without booking ahead. Uber isn't recommended for this run: it is long, drivers often decline, and it isn't allowed inside Casa de Campo.

For solo travelers with light bags, frequent buses run from Santo Domingo to La Romana from the Parque Enriquillo area; you would first need a taxi or Uber into the capital. A rental car helps if you want to move between La Romana, Altos de Chavón and Bayahíbe, though inside Casa de Campo many guests get around by golf cart.

Tips

  • If you are boarding a cruise, leave at least 4 hours between landing and the boarding cutoff.
  • For Casa de Campo, keep your booking number handy: it is asked for at the gate.
  • Ask whether the fare covers Altos de Chavón or the marina inside Casa de Campo, which are several kilometers from the gate.
