The drive
Cars take the Boulevard Turístico del Este north, the same highway that goes to Uvero Alto, and exit at the Macao turnoff. The stretch runs behind Bávaro and Arena Gorda past roundabouts and hotel entrances, then opens into countryside.
The beach access road is narrower and in high season shares space with the buggies and excursion trucks heading to Macao. Mid-morning there can be short queues near the beach; in the afternoon, Bávaro's rush hour hits the first stretch of the boulevard more.
Which option suits you
For two or three people, a pre-booked private transfer (US$40 to US$55) usually costs less than the official taxi and spares you any haggling. The shared shuttle runs about US$12 to US$25 per person, but Macao tends to come at the end of routes that also serve Arena Gorda, with several stops first.
Uber is cheaper than the taxi at this distance and handy once you're at the hotel for trips to Bávaro, though there are fewer drivers around Macao than in Bávaro.
