The drive
The Boulevard Turístico del Este is a wide highway that leaves the airport area, skirts Bávaro inland and runs north past the turnoffs for Arena Gorda and Macao. By avoiding Bávaro's internal streets, traffic usually flows, except at the roundabouts and junctions near Bávaro during the afternoon rush.
Past Macao the scenery changes: less construction, pasture, coconut palms and the gates of isolated resorts. The last kilometers to some hotels are on narrower access roads. North of Uvero Alto the road continues toward Nisibón and Miches.
If you land at night, the northern stretch is less lit than Bávaro. A driver who knows the route makes a difference, which is one more reason to book ahead.
