Punta Cana Airport is about 70 km from Bayahíbe, 50 to 70 minutes on the Autovía del Coral. In 2026 the official taxi is quoted at about US$100 per vehicle, a pre-booked private transfer costs around US$80 to US$120, and a shared shuttle about US$25 to US$50 per person.
Bayahíbe is a fishing village on the south coast, the gateway to Saona Island and Parque Nacional del Este, with a strip of all-inclusive resorts at Dominicus and around the village. Many guests fly into PUJ because it has far more connections than the small La Romana airport (LRM), which is closer but has few flights.

Tolls
One or two Autovía del Coral toll booths, depending on the exit the driver takes. Since January 2025 each costs about RD$100 for a car (around US$1.60). Transfers normally include them.
The drive
From the airport, cars head west to the Punta Cana roundabout and join the Autovía del Coral, a wide, well-kept four-lane highway. It passes the Coral II toll booth and crosses sugarcane fields and pasture. Then it takes the turnoff to Bayahíbe and Dominicus on a narrower road for the last 15 minutes.
It is one of the smoothest routes in the country: light traffic most of the day, and it skips central La Romana and Higüey. The slow bits are the airport exit at rush hour and the approach to Bayahíbe, where there are speed bumps.
The highway is well signposted, and in 2025 RD Vial improved signage between the Coral II toll and the Punta Cana roundabout. Even so, lighting is sparse at night outside the toll plazas.
Which option suits you
A pre-booked private transfer is the sensible choice for two to four people: a fixed US$80 to US$120, no stops and tolls included. Against the official taxi (about US$100) the saving is moderate, but booking avoids haggling and guarantees a car with room for dive or beach gear.
The shared shuttle (US$25 to US$50 per person) suits solo travelers, but it stops in Dominicus and Bayahíbe and can take 1 hour 20 minutes or more. Uber was reported at about US$60 to US$65 to Bayahíbe in late 2025; it is cheaper, but not every driver accepts a trip this long and rides back from Bayahíbe are scarce.
A rental car makes sense here: the highway is easy, and with a car you can visit Altos de Chavón, La Romana or Cueva de las Maravillas on your own. To skip the drive entirely, check for flights into La Romana (LRM), about 20 minutes from Bayahíbe.

Tips
- Check whether your hotel is in Dominicus or Bayahíbe village; shuttles treat them as separate stops.
- Carry about RD$200 in cash if you're driving: the Coral toll booths take cash and Paso Rápido tags.
- If your flight lands late, a private transfer beats waiting for a shared shuttle by a wide margin.
- Saona trips leave from Bayahíbe's pier, so there's no need to go back to Punta Cana for them.
